India's highway network is extensive and constantly expanding, comprising over 6.6 million kilometers of roads, with the National Highways making up about 2% of the total road length but carrying 40% of road traffic. India's national highways are a network of roads maintained by the government, with NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways being the primary authorities.
State highways in India are roads connecting major cities and districts within a state, managed by the respective state governments. Maharashtra has the largest network of state highways, followed by Karnataka and Gujarat, and they are maintained by state Public Works Departments. These highways link to National Highways or highways of neighboring states and play a crucial role in regional connectivity and economic activity.
There are 599 National Highways in India with a total length currently around 1,46,195 km and the total length of state highways in India is approximately 179,535 km as of 2025. There is a severe need of high precise Survey Grade High Definition (HD) data for all the existing National Highways and State Highways in India.
“Prashant Advanced Survey LLP” based in Pune, Maharashtra, India has successfully completed, one of the most ambitious mapping initiatives in the country - capturing more than 1,00,000 Km of 3D HD Data (High Definition Data) of the existing Expressways and National Highways in India, using a fleet of "Leica Pegasus" Survey Grade Mobile LiDAR systems, along with Survey of India CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Station) DGPS Network. In this 1st phase, the target for capturing National Highways in India is 1,75,000 Km run of HD data which is expected to be completed by April 2026. In the 2nd phase, similar HD data capture will be done for about 2,00,000 Km run of State Highways throughout India.
These survey grade HD Data & Maps are extremely useful to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), Public Works Department (PWD) of various states in India, Highway surveyors, designers, contractors, construction & maintenance companies and in the autonomous vehicle industry for ADAS & HD Maps.
ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) use High-Definition (HD) maps for autonomous vehicles by providing hyper-accurate, detailed digital representations of the road environment (lanes, signs, curbs, etc.), extending the car's "vision" beyond its sensors for precise localization, perception, and path planning, enabling safer, more proactive driving for levels from basic assistance (like ACC) to full autonomy (Level 3-5) through combination of pre-captured HD Maps and real-time data fusion and updates.
This data is made available to the extensive users across India (individuals, Government & Private Companies in India) from 2nd December 2025 onwards after its project launch in GeoSmart India 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi with the vision of “One Nation One Map – Advancing Geospatial Infra for National Sovereignty & Economy”. The pricing strategy ensures affordability & accessibility to various stake holders, supporting a wide range of deliverables - from 3D point cloud to Digital Twin models & ADAS / HD maps for future autonomous vehicle ecosystems.
The data has been captured by 6 numbers of “Leica Pegasus Two” Mobile LiDAR systems upto 1,500 Km per day (about 250 Km / instrument / day) with accuracy of + / - 5 to 10 cm using the Survey of India CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Station) DGPS network for more than 1,00,000 Km National Highways throughout India. The data capture will be done throughout India for all the State Highways in 2nd phase and Major District Roads in the 3rd stage. In case the data for required stretch is not available in our archives database, or if someone wants a fresh data to be captured, there is a separate option and a price list for fresh Mobile LiDAR data capture.
At present, the data is available in various lengths of 7 slabs beginning from 1 Km to 10,000+ Km and for 14 different types of deliverables beginning from Rs. 1,600/- per Km to Rs. 7,750/- per Km for archives data and fresh capturing. The data can be purchased for any number of deliverables varying from 1 to 14 and we offer special discounts on order of 3 or more deliverables in the same group or 5 or more deliverables from any groups A, B, C & D. These deliverables cater for different types of end users requiring registered 3D point cloud data to Digital Twin Mesh Model & ADAS / HD Maps for Autonomous vehicles.
In all the deliverables, of Group A, the original registered 3D point cloud data along with images, *.LAS/*.LAZ point cloud format and front camera video files are offered under “Registered 3D Deliverables” (in archives or fresh capturing).
This data under Group B can be useful and affordable to a small bridge consultants or contractors for junction improvement since this data (in archives or fresh capturing) will be offered for even the quantity as small as 1 Km throughout India as per their deliverables selected in our price lists.
The highway authorities, consultants, surveyors or designers typically requiring 100 Km to 500 Km stretches can also get the survey grade 3D Mobile LiDAR data (in archives or fresh capturing) as per their “Basic Deliverables” selected in our price lists.
The Government can obtain our survey grade 3D Mobile LiDAR data before construction tendering to work out the actual required quantities to a high degree of accuracy, so that the highway contractor does not find more variation in the estimated quantity and execution quantity, thus leading to better savings and construction cost projections. This will also ensure faster completion of the construction projects.
The “Advanced Deliverables” like Road Geometry / slopes, collision / clearance, pavement distress all can be very useful in transportation of large and heavy cargos / containers on highways with a defined origin and destination. Eg. Blades of the Wind Mills.
The “Extended deliverables” like the superimposition of 0.15m resolution of Vantor (earlier Maxar) Satellite Images with 500 m width on our Mobile LiDAR data will be useful for the Highway widening / Land acquisition or Feasibility survey, curve improvement purposes. The digital Twin Mesh model of any bridge, junctions or highways black spots portions can be useful for site conditions visualization, analysis and re-designing purposes. The HD Mapping for Autonomous vehicles or ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) can be used for obtaining the Survey grade As-built vectorized data including the lane separators, signal / sign board locations and all point, line & polygon features along the highways which can serve the base data in their systems, which can be constantly updated at a fixed interval of time.
